The A.I’s know…
Guys they know something bad will happen to their carriers. Think about what North and York said, Delta is always calculating and Theta gets scared.
It’s that or they know something is coming….
I thought about it being remnants of the Alpha’s fear (after all he was tortured to make the fragments). We haven’t seen yet if any of the AIs are the Alpha’s fear yet (and rofl I will probably get jossed in a couple episodes), but it’s a possible explanation.

Dat Ranking Board (spoilers for season 9)
I’ve noticed that the Director uses the board not necessarily in a strictly objective manner. He rewarded Maine and Wyoming for their “innovation” in using live ammunition on the training floor, bumping them up to second and third positions. On the same token, when South mouths off to the Director (and because she was being South), he bumps her down despite the “success” of the mission.
From what I’ve seen of the movements up and down on the board, the Director uses that board against his agents, especially those who really hinge on it for their self-worth (i.e. South, who continues to drop lower, and CT, who’s never on it in the first place). This may also qualify as why he dropped Carolina down to number two after the Sarcophagus mission. Texas had never needed to be on the board to do her job well (being the one-woman clean up crew for the beginning of the season), but the Director still stuck her on said board. When factoring the scene in which the Director speaks to Carolina about Phase 2 of the Project, I’m even more convinced that he’s using dropping her to number two in order to manipulate her further into his plans.
York’s original ranking when season 9 began was number 2, then during the breifing where the team is discussing the capture of the Sarcohpagus, his ranking goes all the way down to 6, then at the end of season 9, hes back below carolina at number 3…so pretty much, York gets his eye blown up and he moves down a rank… but he sets off the alarm “Blowing their cover” and he gets to rank number 3
